Socialising

My son started to talk to people when he was two months old. Here is the conversation between him and my mum. V talkative.

Momy Poko

Do you realise that Momy Poko has 10 different "Pooh" images on the diapers? Amazing? No wonder we paid so much for it.

Manicure/Pediacure Services

My son's fingers grow v fast. Every week, my husband got to trim his nails. He was enjoying it v much. He sucked on his fingers to calm himself.

Thumb sucking

A series of actions..........to thumb sucking. He is learning to co-ordinate his fingers with his mouth. Sometimes, he may poke his fingers to the wrong part.... like his nose.
Recently, my son has developed a new habit. He sucks his thumbs to soothe himself since he was two months old. I am so concerned if it will hurt his thumb. I wanna to stop him sucking his thumb by scolding and hitting his hand but to no avail. I even feed him water whenever he sucks his fingers. Worse still, he refused to drink water now.

Was a pacifier better than his thumb? Internet answers were 'NO'. It is fine as long as he didn't carry on this habit until his childhood year.

Hmmm........... hopefully, he will find toys more interesting than his thumb one day.

Toilet train

My mother began toilet training my son as early as he was one month old. He is now able to pass motion in a potty. He would give u some early signs such as hiccup followed by a stoned look. When he passed motion, he will push with “mm” sound and his face will turn red. Amazing?

My First Shopping Trip

I brought my son to one U on Haji holiday. I dressed him in a striking yellow pooh pooh shirt which I bought him as a newborn gift. The mall was so packed that my son couldn’t settle himself in this noisy crowded place. My husband has to carry him around for few hours. I was crazy shopping for clothes, totally forgot their existence. I even left his bottle in the restaurant. I was banned to bring my son out alone. :(

We took pictures with the Christmas décor. Someone commented my son’s clothes was so striking. V yellow? What do u think??

Advanced development

My baby boy lifted his head, kicked water during bath on second day, smile, stand with support, made bubbles (in many shapes, one big bubble or 4 to 5 bubbles in one row) and suck fingers on the first month,

coos and gurgles, suck on fingers for hours and fond of socializing with people on second month.

He used to have at least 2-3 times night feed and stayed alert after the feed until second month. Whenever he stayed alert at night, he would use his charming smile and coos to keep u accompanying him throughout the night. You would feel extremely tired after few hours with him especially at the wee hours.

However, his sleeping pattern has changed recently which he can sleep through the night for 7-8 hours. We felt so happy of not having to wake-up at night but my husband scared he may NOT be fed enough. ???L

Then, I found one formula to gauge how much feeding is enough for infant. Total ounces required per day is total weights (in pounds : 1kg-2.2 pounds) X 2.5 ounces. So, he requires 6kgX2.2X2.5=33ounces per day. On average, he needs 4 ounces per feeding for every 3 hours. He is currently under fed – we give only 3 ounces per feeding. Poor son! Not sure if he will lose weight soon.

Paranoid

I was always paranoid when my baby wasn’t doing well. My friends are like my guide book. After few days discharged from the hospital, we noticed his urine contained pinkish discharge and his eyes contained white discharge. We were so worried and sent him to pediatrician. The PD said the pink discharge was ONLY body salt and it was no harm. It happened because he was dehydrated. Besides that, his reading for jaundice was at the border line and advised us to take him out under the sun. Doctor just gave him eye drops for his infected eyes and asked us to feed him more water.

My mother-in-law fed him lots of water using spoon although according to lactation consultant, breastfeeding baby doesn’t require water. After a week with the eye drops, his eyes didn’t recover fully. My husband secretly used tea bag to rub his eyes. Miracle, his eyes recovered within days. He scolded me of not listening to old people advice. After a week under the sun, my son has turned into an Indian Boy with v tan skin.

Confinement Month

After staying in the air-conditioned room in the hospital for few days, I felt so hot in my mother-in-law house. I also felt so dirty especially the sticky, oily and smelly hair. I almost cried out and wanted to run away from the house. Nevertheless, I still stayed on and counted by days and strongly hoped that it would be over soon.

The only relief I could have is to take shower even though with the “Dai Fong Mak” grass water. I felt so relaxed and cleaned. In the first two weeks, I was like an Emperor when my husband accompanied me. I hardly got down from the bed except for shower and went toilet. Everything was sent to my bed.

I couldn’t resist washing my hair after the 12th day. I washed it every 3-4 days although my mother-in-law didn’t allow me to do so. The most tortured moment in my life............. Please enjoy your pregnancy --- eat and wash yourself as much as you can before your baby arrives.

My Arrival

Two days later on 3 Oct, I suffered contraction pain every 10 minutes in the morning. But, the contraction stopped completely after I woke-up. Nevertheless, there was doctor appointment in the morning. After the doctor examination, my cervix was already opened 3cm. Wow, good news good news. However, doctor said I still couldn’t deliver yet and gave me a choice – induced in the same evening or wait for another day.

I decided to wait for another day. I went home and took a nap in the afternoon. Contraction started again and at more regular interval-every 5 minutes. I still hesitated if it was time to deliver. Called doctor and doctor advised to admit immediately. Enduring the contraction pain, I took a hot shower and washed hair. When I reached the emergency unit around 5pm, a nurse sent me straight to labour ward. A nurse checked my cervix and it was opened 4cm. Doctor came around 7pm and told me that my cervix was already opened 6cm. I was also told that it takes about an hour for 1cm dilation. At first, I could still enjoy my light dinner. When it was around 9pm, I couldn’t withstand the lower back pain and asked for a pain killer. Then, I became drowsy. But the pain grew stronger around midnight and I sucked hydrogen gas to relieve pain. When I feel like pass motion, I called for nurse that I was ready to deliver. However, the nurse told me to hold back and no pushing. After few minutes, I couldn’t stand it and asked for doctor. Then, doctor came. He wore a gown like a rain coat, plastic mask and a “Phua Chew Kang” boots. Nurses pushed down the lower part of the bed and set-up bars for me to hold on. I was holding on to two bars and pulled my body up. My legs were wide opened and my feet were pressed hard on the side of bed. The midwife and nurses told me to lift myself up and took a deep breath and hold on and push like pass motion. My face turned red on each push and I felt v tired. After several attempts for about half an hour, my mission failed. Doctor decided to use vacuum to suck him out. When he arrived at around 1am, I could feel him gushing out with lots of water. My husband cut his umbilical cord. The doctor placed him on my laps. He cried v softly. He made eating sound “chup chup”. He might be too hungry over the long wait. He weighed 8.8 lbs and 52cm tall. The midwife was so excited and called him Fat Boy.

Vigorous Exercise

I became more anxious when my baby was over due. I started to do pelvic floor exercise at night and walking few rounds at Menjalara park in the morning. I was once accidentally walked into a hill track in Kepong FRIM with my husband. We were trapped for hours in the jungle. Luckily, I wasn’t destined to deliver a jungle boy.

False Alarm

A week before my birth date, I’d bloody show in the wee hour. I woke my husband up and took a shower before going to hospital. Coincidentally, it was a public holiday and my sister-in-law was on holiday accompanying us to hospital. As there was no contraction pain, I still managed to have breakfast at Bangsar mamak restaurant before heading to hospital. It was extremely quiet early in the morning. When we arrived at Pantai hospital, we looked for emergency unit and none of the foreign workers able to tell us where it is. Apparently, most of the odd job at hospital are occupied by foreign workers.

Then, we went straight to labour ward where they monitored my baby’s heart beat and a nice nurse came around to check my cervix. L Bad news,….., cervix is still closed. My husband decided to go off to work and I stayed on to wait for doctor. Doctor finally came and confirmed the cervix is not opened and asked me if I wanted to induce or wait for another one week. I decided to wait after hearing so many horror stories about induction process.

Waiting.....

All colleagues have been asking my mom why she is still in the office as my due date is next Wed 26 Sep. Hmm........ She just smiled back without further comments. She wish to take leaves starting from next Monday 24 Sep and hopefully the doctor can give her few days MC.

She always curious to ask doctor if she is ready to deliver but my doctor told her off and said that no one in this world can predict when you are going to arrive or leave this world. True oso..

So, she has to learn to wait patiently. She has developed a habit talking to me and told me to give her full support during labour. I'm v excited now bcoz I'll be seeing my mom soon in one week time.

Naming "Ah Bi"

Mom has been struggling to find a name for "ah bi" for few months. Discussed with friends, grandpa, father, and others. Still no clues.

Nevertheless, mom sticked to some general principals like:
1. Not too common until you will be called big bi or small bi in the same class like my mom
2. Not too uncommon until no one can pronounce it correctly
3. No Unisex name until you will be mistaken as a "GIRL"
4. No funny name - Au is pronounced as "O" in English, so names to avoid "Ocean", "Ogawa", "Osim". Owen sounds nice and it can be used as both Chinese and English name "AU WEN"

After thinking through all the possibilities, mom still like this name Au Kai Young 区凯阳. Mom wants me to be a successful person with warm heart.

Boring

Wed, 12 Sep 07, 4.17pm

Mum started to get bored when mum's friend went off one by one to deliver. My first Sep baby friend was born on last Mon with C-section. He overtook us and appeared to be the lightest baby boy 5.9lbs. Mum's 2nd colleague went on leave earlier to wait for her delivery.

Mum is alone now in the office, idling around to play kakuro, kusodo and "spot the difference" from SCJP.

Hmmm......... mum is taking to go off next week and rest at home. No more stressful driving in the morning as the Segambut Dalam shortcut is getting congested nowadays.

Mama, Ah bi will give u full support when the time comes. Don't worry......... Two more weeks to go, I'll be arriving in this exciting world. Hopefully, I won't cause u much pains.

Sick

Finally, mom couldn't withstand the hectic the schedule and fell sick during the merdeka break. Mom has coughed v badly, caught a cold and fever over the last few days. During the holiday, the gynae was closed. Mom went to a normal clinic and got some cough mixture, antibiotic and panadol. Mom only ate noodles (mian sian) cooked by papa. Papa learnt it from my grandma. How nice if papa can cook a nice meal when I grow-up.

After fighting with the virus for about a week, mom started to feel better now. What a relief! Mom is getting anxious when due date is closer. She couldn't differentiate btw a false alarm and a real one! Mom wanna to take one week off to rest at home knowing that the other two colleagues were doing so. Driving to work is getting difficult when mom's feet is swollen. It's better to leaves earlier.

Gugu (papa's elder sister) will join us as well since she cooks dinner for us most of the time. Mum feels so happy today. She told me to sing a birthday song for her early in the morning. ??????? How? Mum ended-up listening to a funny birthday song from the internet.

Get ready to hospital

Mum has fully prepared now to go hospital. She packed my stuff in a small travel bag. I'll bring along my toiletries sets, 2 pairs of mitten, booties, long shirts n pants plus my cutie winnie the pooh cap. 2 big towels (possibly my blankets), one jacket, 3 handkerchiefs, pampers. My mum squeezed everyting inside my small bag. Dunno if all my shirts will wrinkle by the time I am born.

Major Earthquake

Yesterday was a big scare to me. Mum fell down on the 31st weeks. As I grew bigger, mum's center of gravity shifts making mum more susceptible to falls. So, Mum should have been more careful.

Yesterday afternoon, mum came out from the toilet forgotten about the wet floor. Before she knew it, she slipped on the wet floor. Her head knocked on the wall and her glasses broke. Then, she lied down on the floor without knowing what to do next. People started to gather around mum. Everyone started to check out if I was fine. Touching mum's stomach and asked mum if she felt pain in the stomach. Mum was so nervous and she just said no. After gathered her conscious, she went to the toilet again if the vagina bleeds.

What mattered most now was my safety. She decided to go to the nearby clinic. The doctor helped to check my heart beat. Unfortunately, he couldn't hear it after pressing so hard on mum's stomach (without taking off mum's shirt and pants). Ridiculously, the doctor told mum that it was the right way to hear my heartbeat and asked mum to count 5 movements in the next 24 hours. Speechless. Without much hope or taking the risk to wait for the 5 movements, mum decided to c gynae.

A good friend of mum, auntie SL offered to drive mum to the specialist. Another round of scare, the toilet was extremely wet where mum got to walk in to take urine. After all, mum just noticed that Malaysia is not a friendly place for pregnant ladies. During rainy season, all places were just wet and they just don't care about the safety for elderly, pregnant women, etc.

A big relief to mum when doctor said I was healthy. After all, mum has to be extra careful when the floor is wet. Papa was still in the dark until mum was getting her glasses fixed. After knowing about it, papa went straight home to check out if we were ok. Papa used a hot egg to massage on a plump on mum's head and left eye. Papa will always there with us.

Doctor says "bad words"

I went for 30 weeks check-up. Doctor wanna re-assured my mum of my gender. He did an ultra-sound again and showed mummy my scrotum. He even drew it on my picture and said to mum "This is my "chun doy". This doctor was damn funny and he didn't even know that it is rude to say those words in cantonese.

Guess my gender

It has been a hot topic among all my aunties, uncles, jie jie and goh goh. Mum tried to find gender predictor from the website as well as hearsay from lots of mothers. Based on the prediction, I am a boy. Nevertheless, this were all predictions. True answer yet to be found.......

During my 6-month old check-up, doctor asked my mum if she wanted to know my gender. Mum immediately knodded. Doctor then performed the ultrasound scan to search for my dick. I was kind of scare of not knowing what he was trying to do. I flipped around trying to avoid him. After few searches, he identified my dick. It was kind of big in proportion to my body size. Mum was impressed too. Doctor printed a copy of my picture and confirmed that I was a "boy".

Papa and mum were so happy. But they haven't told my grandma and grandpa. Isn't it a good news to share with them??? You know, in chinese traditional family, a boy means a lot to the family.

Changes in MUM

During the first few months, mum was happily fitted into her loose pants and T-shirt. She continued to eat spicy food, seafood, etc. She didn't feel much of my existence.

In the second trimester, mum has to change into maternity pants with a kangaroo pouch and the lumpy maternity shirts. She started to to gain weight in the fifth month. Can you imagine? Mum gained 6 kilos in a month while I was only weighed 564 grams. A huge difference ya?

#1 Mum sleeps with 3 pillows - 1 for the head, 1 for the feet, 1 between the legs. According to experts, this will help to reduce leg cramps, water retention, etc.

#2 She started to change to sleep on the left knowing that this will help supply more blood/oxygence to me.

#3 Mum wakes-up more regularly at night bcoz of the larger uterus pressing on the bladder.

#4 Mum could no longer sit on a low couch that makes her difficult to get-up.

#5 Mum couldn't reach her feet during shower. Mum has serious heartburn recently after having heavy breakfast.....

#6 Mum is clumsier nowadays with the growing uterus and is off balance while walking. She feels tired easily nowadays.

Mama.... Jia You.....& dun get depressed with these changes. It's normal. You need to stay healthy to welcome me to this world.

Mum talks to me more frequently nowadays assuming I can understand her. ?????? I'm approaching 7 months now.

Unfriendly doctor

Mum was introduced by her friend one of the famous gynaes in Jln Ipoh. Unfortunately, she wasn't around during our first visit. However, mum was quite happy with the first visit because doctor said I'd strong heart beat and very healthy. Mum rewarded me two char siew bao from Jln Ipoh. It tasted so good after getting tired of all the Chinese New Year cookies.

Mum resumed her weekly gym workout thinking that this would keep me healthy. Mum has worked extra hard to shed few kilos for the wedding photo shooting. After a tiring workout, mum was shocked to find out blood stain after urine. She quickly went to see the doctor. Without much explanation, the doctor removed a polyp (extra tissue) wihtout much consent from mum and dad. Blur????????? Mum was then given an injection to give me extra nutrients and was on medication for one month. Mum suffered from bleeding for a month. Due to this, mum cancelled the shooting to the next day.

Mum was so worried about me and she felt guilty of causing me problem. She then consulted several friends and confirmed that it was not serious. Huh..... She felt a bit relief. But she was thinking to consult the doctor again and confirmed if I was alright. Doctor was annoyed of mum asking several times until she kept my mum mouth shut and said " I told u oredi, the baby is ok". Hahaha............ What an unfriendly doctor?

Surprise Arrival

Hi aunties/jie jie! I'm "Ah Bi", a name given by my mum, CLK.

Mum has created a blog for me. I am so great to have mum keeping every moment of my life in here.

The story began when I first contacted my mum in her dream during her medan trip. I visited my mum every night but she was too shocked to welcome my arrival.

Later, she broke the news with papa but papa was laughing out at her suspicious thought and advised her to wait for another one month.

One nite, mum has really bad dream that forced her to see a doctor. She was extremely nervous with hands trembling. When it was her turn, she felt uneasy to wait for the doctor's response. The doctor broke the news and confirmed my arrival. Hi mum, this is the first time mum believed of my existence.
