My son started to talk to people when he was two months old. Here is the conversation between him and my mum. V talkative.

Momy Poko

Do you realise that Momy Poko has 10 different "Pooh" images on the diapers? Amazing? No wonder we paid so much for it.

Thumb sucking

A series of actions..........to thumb sucking. He is learning to co-ordinate his fingers with his mouth. Sometimes, he may poke his fingers to the wrong part.... like his nose.
Recently, my son has developed a new habit. He sucks his thumbs to soothe himself since he was two months old. I am so concerned if it will hurt his thumb. I wanna to stop him sucking his thumb by scolding and hitting his hand but to no avail. I even feed him water whenever he sucks his fingers. Worse still, he refused to drink water now.

Was a pacifier better than his thumb? Internet answers were 'NO'. It is fine as long as he didn't carry on this habit until his childhood year.

Hmmm........... hopefully, he will find toys more interesting than his thumb one day.

Toilet train

My mother began toilet training my son as early as he was one month old. He is now able to pass motion in a potty. He would give u some early signs such as hiccup followed by a stoned look. When he passed motion, he will push with “mm” sound and his face will turn red. Amazing?

My First Shopping Trip

I brought my son to one U on Haji holiday. I dressed him in a striking yellow pooh pooh shirt which I bought him as a newborn gift. The mall was so packed that my son couldn’t settle himself in this noisy crowded place. My husband has to carry him around for few hours. I was crazy shopping for clothes, totally forgot their existence. I even left his bottle in the restaurant. I was banned to bring my son out alone. :(

We took pictures with the Christmas décor. Someone commented my son’s clothes was so striking. V yellow? What do u think??

Advanced development

My baby boy lifted his head, kicked water during bath on second day, smile, stand with support, made bubbles (in many shapes, one big bubble or 4 to 5 bubbles in one row) and suck fingers on the first month,

coos and gurgles, suck on fingers for hours and fond of socializing with people on second month.

He used to have at least 2-3 times night feed and stayed alert after the feed until second month. Whenever he stayed alert at night, he would use his charming smile and coos to keep u accompanying him throughout the night. You would feel extremely tired after few hours with him especially at the wee hours.

However, his sleeping pattern has changed recently which he can sleep through the night for 7-8 hours. We felt so happy of not having to wake-up at night but my husband scared he may NOT be fed enough. ???L

Then, I found one formula to gauge how much feeding is enough for infant. Total ounces required per day is total weights (in pounds : 1kg-2.2 pounds) X 2.5 ounces. So, he requires 6kgX2.2X2.5=33ounces per day. On average, he needs 4 ounces per feeding for every 3 hours. He is currently under fed – we give only 3 ounces per feeding. Poor son! Not sure if he will lose weight soon.

Paranoid

I was always paranoid when my baby wasn’t doing well. My friends are like my guide book. After few days discharged from the hospital, we noticed his urine contained pinkish discharge and his eyes contained white discharge. We were so worried and sent him to pediatrician. The PD said the pink discharge was ONLY body salt and it was no harm. It happened because he was dehydrated. Besides that, his reading for jaundice was at the border line and advised us to take him out under the sun. Doctor just gave him eye drops for his infected eyes and asked us to feed him more water.

My mother-in-law fed him lots of water using spoon although according to lactation consultant, breastfeeding baby doesn’t require water. After a week with the eye drops, his eyes didn’t recover fully. My husband secretly used tea bag to rub his eyes. Miracle, his eyes recovered within days. He scolded me of not listening to old people advice. After a week under the sun, my son has turned into an Indian Boy with v tan skin.

Confinement Month

After staying in the air-conditioned room in the hospital for few days, I felt so hot in my mother-in-law house. I also felt so dirty especially the sticky, oily and smelly hair. I almost cried out and wanted to run away from the house. Nevertheless, I still stayed on and counted by days and strongly hoped that it would be over soon.

The only relief I could have is to take shower even though with the “Dai Fong Mak” grass water. I felt so relaxed and cleaned. In the first two weeks, I was like an Emperor when my husband accompanied me. I hardly got down from the bed except for shower and went toilet. Everything was sent to my bed.

I couldn’t resist washing my hair after the 12th day. I washed it every 3-4 days although my mother-in-law didn’t allow me to do so. The most tortured moment in my life............. Please enjoy your pregnancy --- eat and wash yourself as much as you can before your baby arrives.

My Arrival

Two days later on 3 Oct, I suffered contraction pain every 10 minutes in the morning. But, the contraction stopped completely after I woke-up. Nevertheless, there was doctor appointment in the morning. After the doctor examination, my cervix was already opened 3cm. Wow, good news good news. However, doctor said I still couldn’t deliver yet and gave me a choice – induced in the same evening or wait for another day.

I decided to wait for another day. I went home and took a nap in the afternoon. Contraction started again and at more regular interval-every 5 minutes. I still hesitated if it was time to deliver. Called doctor and doctor advised to admit immediately. Enduring the contraction pain, I took a hot shower and washed hair. When I reached the emergency unit around 5pm, a nurse sent me straight to labour ward. A nurse checked my cervix and it was opened 4cm. Doctor came around 7pm and told me that my cervix was already opened 6cm. I was also told that it takes about an hour for 1cm dilation. At first, I could still enjoy my light dinner. When it was around 9pm, I couldn’t withstand the lower back pain and asked for a pain killer. Then, I became drowsy. But the pain grew stronger around midnight and I sucked hydrogen gas to relieve pain. When I feel like pass motion, I called for nurse that I was ready to deliver. However, the nurse told me to hold back and no pushing. After few minutes, I couldn’t stand it and asked for doctor. Then, doctor came. He wore a gown like a rain coat, plastic mask and a “Phua Chew Kang” boots. Nurses pushed down the lower part of the bed and set-up bars for me to hold on. I was holding on to two bars and pulled my body up. My legs were wide opened and my feet were pressed hard on the side of bed. The midwife and nurses told me to lift myself up and took a deep breath and hold on and push like pass motion. My face turned red on each push and I felt v tired. After several attempts for about half an hour, my mission failed. Doctor decided to use vacuum to suck him out. When he arrived at around 1am, I could feel him gushing out with lots of water. My husband cut his umbilical cord. The doctor placed him on my laps. He cried v softly. He made eating sound “chup chup”. He might be too hungry over the long wait. He weighed 8.8 lbs and 52cm tall. The midwife was so excited and called him Fat Boy.

Vigorous Exercise

I became more anxious when my baby was over due. I started to do pelvic floor exercise at night and walking few rounds at Menjalara park in the morning. I was once accidentally walked into a hill track in Kepong FRIM with my husband. We were trapped for hours in the jungle. Luckily, I wasn’t destined to deliver a jungle boy.

False Alarm

A week before my birth date, I’d bloody show in the wee hour. I woke my husband up and took a shower before going to hospital. Coincidentally, it was a public holiday and my sister-in-law was on holiday accompanying us to hospital. As there was no contraction pain, I still managed to have breakfast at Bangsar mamak restaurant before heading to hospital. It was extremely quiet early in the morning. When we arrived at Pantai hospital, we looked for emergency unit and none of the foreign workers able to tell us where it is. Apparently, most of the odd job at hospital are occupied by foreign workers.

Then, we went straight to labour ward where they monitored my baby’s heart beat and a nice nurse came around to check my cervix. L Bad news,….., cervix is still closed. My husband decided to go off to work and I stayed on to wait for doctor. Doctor finally came and confirmed the cervix is not opened and asked me if I wanted to induce or wait for another one week. I decided to wait after hearing so many horror stories about induction process.
